Shawnee (on the left) is a 7 year old Golden that we adopted the year before with her 14 year old pal and brother Hans. The family was being transferred from Barrington to Hawaii and they knew that Hans would not make the trip. Hans died 3 months after we adopted them. Shawnee was depressed and lonely. My wife Kim contacted H.E.L.P. and a few weeks later we got a phone call that "We found your dog!".

When Harley (on the right) showed up for his first visit, Kim said "Darn he's big!". From the moment we saw him we knew he was going to be a great addition to the family and after a few more visits we could truly see that he was a sweetheart. He is now best friends with the newly rejuvenated Shawnee and tolerates our two cats (Simba and Camile).

His story to the best of our knowledge is that he spent over a year in a no kill shelter in Champaign IL (thank God). H.E.L.P. volunteers drove all the way down south to get him. Then foster mom Tracie Sesto spent countless hours acclimating him to be out of a cage and socializing with other animals. We think he was abused because every time a paper or magazine comes near him he cowers. It took a little training to teach him patience with food. He is smart, obedient and just the most loving dog you could ask for. He is Kim's 'special friend' and follows her everywhere.

Harley enjoys retrieving tennis balls, chewing nylar bones and making noise with his favorite toy Mr. Gopher (hedgehog).

Thank you H.E.L.P. for caring and saving this loving dog. He brings joy to our home everyday!
